Hundreds of people demonstrate against Trump in European towns
After Trump announced massive worldwide tariffs, financial markets had a rough week. On Saturday, hundreds of people demonstrated against Trump and his advisor Elon Musk in European cities.
Democrats Abroad, the Democratic Party’s official organization for American citizens abroad, organized the “Hands Off!” protest in Frankfurt, Germany.
Demonstrators in Berlin hoisted signs in front of a Tesla store, urging Americans residing in Germany to demonstrate for “an end to the chaos” back home.
Members of the foreign Democrats group gathered in Frankfurt’s Opernplatz and held placards with the phrases “Restore Democracy,” “Hands off our personal data,” and “The world is tired of your bullshit Donald, be gone!” calling for the resignation of the US president.
“Shut up Elon, no one voted for you,” and “Dogs against DOGE,” which refers to the Department of Government Efficiency, which is led by senior adviser Musk and was established by the second Trump administration to cut down on federal spending waste, fraud, and abuse, were among the slogans aimed at Musk in Berlin.
About 200 individuals, primarily Americans, gathered on the Place de la République in Paris, France, to demonstrate against Trump. With demonstrators holding banners that said “Resist Tyrant,” “Rule of Law,” “Feminists for Freedom not Fascism,” and “Save Democracy,” some offered remarks criticizing the president. One performed and played “Masters of War,” a song by Bob Dylan.
Other European cities, such as Lisbon and London, also hosted protests against Musk and Trump.
Signs reading “WTAF America?” and “Proud American Ashamed” were carried by a few hundred protesters in the British capital’s Trafalgar Square. As the audience listened to speeches denouncing Trump, they chanted “Hands off Canada,” “Hands off Greenland,” and “Hands off Ukraine.”
