Sunday will be Air Algeria’s first flight to Abuja

On April 6, Air Algerie will fly to Abuja for the first time, marking an important turning point in the relationship between Algeria and Nigeria.

Air Algerie will launch direct flights from Algeria’s capital, Algiers, to Abuja. On Sunday, April 6, the airline will make its first journey into the capital of Nigeria.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ acting spokesperson, released the following statement on Wednesday: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce the commencement of Air Algerie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, scheduled for 6th April 2025.”

“This momentous event represents a critical turning point in the expanding diplomatic and commercial ties between Algeria and Nigeria. It should be noted that this successful endeavor was the result of both countries implementing the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

According to the announcement, the new route would improve connectivity, encourage travel, and make trade and investment between the two countries easier. It will be run by Algeria’s official airline, Algerie Air, using a Boeing 737 aircraft. The two nations’ shared commitment to strengthening their bilateral cooperation in aviation, trade, and people-to-people interactions is further highlighted by this historic development.

The Ministry acknowledged the important role the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers played in not only enabling this admirable objective but also seeing it through to completion. The planned inaugural flight is anticipated to include the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers, the leadership of the Nigerian Community in Algeria, and a representative of the Algerian government.

The statement went on to say: “The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and pertinent aviation authorities, extends its warmest congratulations to Air Algerie and guarantees all necessary support to ensure the growth and sustainability of this new service.” In addition to creating new chances for mutual development, we think this project will deepen the long-standing friendship between Algeria and Nigeria. The reasonable fares and Algeria’s close proximity to Europe would also give Nigerians an easy route to go to Europe, strengthening Nigeria’s standing as a regional center for transit, business, and tourism.

Therefore, the Nigerian government urges its citizens and business communities to explore trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations by utilizing this improved aviation connectivity, which would be available twice a week. We hope our first flight goes well and our collaboration with Air Algeria is fruitful.
