Europe Promises to React Proportionately to Trump’s Tariff Plans, Preventing Escalation

French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci says that while Europe will react to Trump’s tariffs proportionately, it wants to prevent trade tensions from getting worse.

French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci stated Wednesday that while Europe will react proportionately to United States President Donald Trump’s anticipated imposition of new tariffs, tensions will not be escalated.

In an interview with RMC radio, Ferracci underlined Europe’s preference for negotiation over confrontation in trade issues.

He said, “Europe has always supported dialogue and bringing things under control because, you know, trade wars only result in losers.”

Concerns about price rises and the likelihood of reprisal from other nations are raised by US President Donald Trump’s planned announcement on Wednesday of broad new reciprocal tariffs on international trade partners.

Although the European Union has a history of retaliating against US trade policies, Ferracci’s comments point to a calibrated strategy meant to prevent a full-scale trade war.
