Home support is what makes Slot stand out in the Merseyside Derby
Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, stated that he anticipates Wednesday’s matchup with Everton at Anfield to be comparable to their previous encounter at Goodison Park in February, with the only exception being that his team will have the support of the home crowd.
With almost 40,000 spectators, Everton held Premier League leaders Liverpool to a thrilling 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison before they relocate to a new stadium.
Liverpool will take on a resolute Everton team that hasn’t lost in the league since January as they get closer to winning the league title with a 12-point advantage over second-place Arsenal.
“They didn’t lose one football game in their last nine Premier League games, so it would be a surprise if they are going to do something different,” Slot told the media on Tuesday.
“And since we lead the league, it would be odd if we made any changes as well.
“Every time Everton players perform well, they don’t receive the applause and reactions that I expect them to, but our players will receive that response following each tackle and pass they make. And that’s a different feeling.
Liverpool entered last month’s international break on a negative note after losing to Newcastle United in the League Cup final and falling to Paris St. Germain on penalties, despite the fact that they have won their last 25 Premier League games.
Slot expressed his and his team’s eagerness to get past March’s setback.
“They are, like me, disappointed for us not winning our first trophy and being out of the Champions League,” remarked the Dutch manager.
“The situation we are in right now is understandable to everyone. that everyone is eagerly anticipating the nine games that are coming ahead. I think the guys are invigorated.
Slot dismissed recent media allegations that linked defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to a Real Madrid transfer, stating that similar rumors had been made regarding Liverpool players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah on multiple occasions.
“Those discussions have never been our main focus. Our attention has always been on the tasks at hand. Their goal is to win the Merseyside derby, according to Virgil and Mohamed. Making ensuring Trent is fit as soon as possible is his first priority, Slot stated.
