Central Amsterdam Attack: Five Stabbed, Suspect Arrested

The rationale behind a stabbing spree that injured five individuals, including two Americans, is being looked into by Dutch police.

On Thursday, a man stabbed five people in the heart of Amsterdam before Dutch police took him into custody. According to authorities, the suspect was captured soon after the incident and suffered a leg injury. 

Two American citizens, a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old male, were among the victims. Additionally hurt were a 19-year-old Dutch woman, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, and a 26-year-old Polish guy. 

According to a statement from Dutch police, “the motive behind the attack is currently unclear and under investigation.” They also added that they are looking into the possibility that the victims were picked at random. 

Since the attack happened in the afternoon, the police responded quickly. More information about the suspect and whether the incident is connected to terrorism has not yet been made public by the authorities.
