The Trump Administration Will Stop US Funding for Vaccines for Children in Developing Countries

The Trump administration intends to reduce other international health programs while reducing financing for kid vaccinations in developing countries.

Gavi, a worldwide organization that helps administer vaccines for children in developing countries, is set to lose funding under US President Donald Trump’s administration, according to a document obtained by Reuters.

The government also sought to reduce malaria activities, which represented a change in US global health priorities. The New York Times originally revealed the paper, which stated that although some public health programs will be impacted by funding reductions, the United States would still provide funds for the treatment of HIV and TB, as well as food assistance for nations hit by natural catastrophes and civil wars.

When asked about the proposed modifications, the US Health and Human Services Department did not immediately reply. Gavi depends on donations to support its vaccine initiatives. Gavi has been instrumental in global immunization efforts, especially in low-income nations.

Public health professionals and humanitarian groups expressed worry about the proposed changes, stating that they could result in more disease outbreaks and a reversal of the advancements made in global health if funding for vaccination programs and malaria control initiatives were curtailed.
