With Salah, Liverpool must be adaptable, according to Owen
According to Liverpool veteran Michael Owen, the team must be adaptable in its approach to reaching an agreement on a new deal with Mohamed Salah, an Egyptian star.
Negotiations for a new contract have not yet produced results, and the Pharaohs attacker’s present deal is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Owen thinks Salah’s performances justify an exemption to the rule that players over 30 are given shorter-term contracts because the 32-year-old is having a wonderful season with the Reds.
“Mo Salah is a fascinating person. Owen was reported by talkSPORT as saying, “I think Mo Salah wants to stay, in fact I’m pretty sure he wants to stay.”
“I believe Liverpool will need to make a small exception to the rules; they may say, ‘Oh, right, only two years for players of this age.'”
He’s not your typical player, though; he’s really fit, committed, lives in the gym, and is extremely professional. You can’t tell me that in three or four years, he won’t be at the same level.
Since he is simply unreal, I would defy the law and grant him the contract and its duration.
Additionally, I’m not the kind of fan who believes that “just give him what he wants; he’s brilliant, and we’ll win the league with him.” No, because you can’t jeopardize your club, but I don’t believe it’s reached that point.
“It will be far more expensive to replace him, and you won’t have to pay a transfer fee.
“I believe he wants to stay, and I would do anything to keep him, but sources tell me that they’re still very far apart.”
