Jayson Tatum, a Celtics star, leaves due to a sprained left ankle
Jayson Tatum, the Celtics’ six-time All-Star, sprained his left ankle during the third quarter and was unable to play in Monday’s 113-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings on the road.
With 3:35 remaining in the third quarter, Tatum, who finished with a game-high 25 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in 26 minutes, stepped on the foot of Domantas Sabonis of the Kings following a 3-point attempt.
Tatum managed to make one of the two free throws after playing for a few minutes before being substituted. At the moment, the Celtics (53-19) had a 79-68 lead. Because Sabonis ran beneath a 3-point shooter, he was given a flagrant foul.
Joe Mazzulla, the Celtics coach, stated after the game, “He seems to be doing OK, he’s just icing it right now.” “The show was not seen by me. It was a blatant foul, therefore they were correct to call it. He’s fortunate to have made the free throw and is currently taking care of it.
“I know he’ll do anything and everything to make sure he gets better.”
Tatum leads the Celtics in scoring (27.1 points per game), rebounds (8.7), and assists (6.0) through 66 games this season.
