Chris Brown uses relocation as a defense against the ex-housekeeper in a $90 million lawsuit that evades deposition claims
Chris Brown, in his ongoing legal struggle with former housekeeper Maria Avila, escalates his efforts to avoid punishment.
The R&B artist recently moved out of Los Angeles, which prevented him from physically attending the legal questioning, according to the singer’s legal team.
When Chris Brown’s cleaner claimed his dog viciously attacked her in 2020 while she was working at his residence, she hauled him to court.
According to Chris Brown’s former housekeeper, she was unaware of his move.
During a recent court appearance, Chris disclosed that he had moved to Nevada and asked the judge to refrain from punishing him. Maria claimed that he was delaying the deposition procedure in her lawsuit, but he and his legal staff vehemently denied this.
Maria, who claims she was severely disfigured by Chris’s dog, said she had been attempting to set up a date for his deposition for months. She claims that Chris’s new legal team told her that he was unable to attend an in-person deposition because he no longer lived in California.
Additionally, she claimed that his prior attorneys had neglected to inform her about his relocation. She requested $7,560 in penalties for the delays and asked the court to step in and force his appearance, according to In Touch.
According to reports, Chris’ lawyer was unsuccessful in filing for a deposition from Florida.
Chris’ attorneys responded by moving to have Maria’s motion for sanctions dismissed, claiming that they had started working with him in August 2024.
They denied that Chris purposefully missed any previous depositions without properly informing Maria’s attorneys, and they clarified that they had been actively working to schedule Chris’s deposition.
The legal team pointed out that Chris’s availability was restricted by his hectic touring schedule, especially in the fall and winter of 2024 and the first part of 2025.
Chris has offered to be deposed in Nevada, within 75 miles of his home, according to the singer’s legal team, but they have not heard back from the court.
Chris’s attorneys came to the conclusion that scheduling and procedural issues were the reason for the delays in setting up his deposition. His team urged the court to reject Maria’s request for monetary damages, arguing that it was not deliberate misbehavior on their part.
The dancer has allegedly been contacted six times by Maria and her team for a deposition.
The former housekeeper had previously asked for a court hearing to address several flaws in her case, as The Blast revealed. Her goal was to remove the artist and a representative from Black Pyramid LLC, his business. Both parties, however, declined to supply witnesses for the deposition procedure.
Maria’s lawyer stressed that she had spent more than a year attempting to set up a time for the singer’s deposition. They have not heard back from the singer despite contacting them six times in February and March.
The former cleaner described an instance in her complaint where she was attacked by Chris’s huge Orvchake/Caucasian Shepherd dog. She and her sister, Patricia Avila, were working in his Los Angeles house at the time.
She remembered that she was tossing out the trash when the attack occurred. The visual proof of her injuries and her demand for $90 million in damages from the artist show that the dog took off large portions of her skin.
The Grammy Award winner accused his former employees of making the dog angry.
In addition, Patricia filed a claim to recover damages for the psychological anguish she endured after seeing her sister Maria attacked. The artist’s legal team countered that Maria had effectively invited the injuries she was claiming, and the singer disputed all of the accusations.
His legal team argued that Maria had been fully aware of the dangers and that it was her conduct that caused the dog to attack her.
It further stated “that she knew her foregoing conduct might cause the dog to attack her and seriously injure her, both of which events are alleged to have occurred.”
Chris’s lawyers insisted that the occurrence was caused by her actions, which included taunting, mistreating, or assaulting the dog.
Chris Brown was criticized by his former housekeeper for lacking empathy.
Maria recounted a terrifying experience in which she was attacked by a dog, suffering serious injuries to her arms and face in addition to long-term harm to other bodily parts.
According to The Blast, Chris, who was purportedly there at the time of the attack, has been the target of grave accusations from her attorney. In an attempt to obliterate evidence, they said, he failed to step in and instead gave his bodyguards instructions to get rid of the dog.
According to reports, the bodyguards then relocated the dog to Northern California’s Humboldt County, where they left it behind. Soon after, the dog was discovered and put down by the humane organization.
The father of three was criticized by Maria’s attorney for his inaction after the attack, saying he did not help her by transporting her to the hospital or providing any support. To support her accusations, Maria also included pictures of her wounds.
The pressure from Chris Brown’s ex-housekeeper is exactly where it’s needed!
