US Congressman and Kagame talk about working together to advance regional peace

The House Armed Services Committee on Intelligence and Special Operations is chaired by US Congressman Dr. Ronny Jackson, who met with President Paul Kagame on Friday, March 21.

They spoke on continued collaboration to advance regional peace.

AFC/M23 rebels have taken control of important cities in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the war there has intensified since Congressman Jackson’s visit.

On March 16, Jackson also had a meeting to talk about the problem with Felix Tshisekedi, the president of Congo.

Tshisekedi and President Kagame met in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday.

President Kagame emphasized at the conference, which was facilitated by Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the necessity of addressing the problem of FDLR genocidal forces and providing security assurances for Rwanda and the surrounding area.

One of the militias battling the AFC/M23 rebels in Congo is the FDLR, which is connected to the 1994 Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi.

In order to address the underlying causes of the war in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Doha summit also addressed the pressing necessity of direct political dialogue with AFC/M23.
