Panama’s surprise celebration with Thierry Henry

The Concacaf Nations League semifinals saw Panama stun the football world Thursday night by defeating Mauricio Pochettino’s United States.

The USA’s supremacy in the sport came to an end at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles when 33-year-old Cecilio Waterman scored a late goal to seal a 1-0 victory. It was a devastating blow for Pochettino, who lost his first significant game as head coach, but it was a momentous occasion for Panama—and for Waterman, who celebrated in a way that will never be forgotten.

Waterman immediately ran to embrace Thierry Henry, a CBS analyst on the sidelines, after scoring the game-winning goal. The unexpected celebration clearly touched the renowned French striker.

“I’ve lost games, won championships, and scored goals. However, this will always be one of the most unforgettable times,” Henry remarked. “I’ll have to show my kids this; I don’t even know how I got into all of that, but I was there.”
