UK to Hold Exclusive Military Discussions on Ukraine Peacekeeping Mission
The UK is hosting closed military negotiations on Ukraine peacekeeping, with more than 20 countries preparing a force led by the West.
The “coalition of the willing” is holding a closed-door conference in the UK on Thursday to develop plans for a potential peacekeeping mission for Ukraine.
It is estimated that at than 20 nations are involved.
After making a maiden stop in Barrow to lay the keel of one of Britain’s new generation of nuclear-armed submarines, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is anticipated to attend on Thursday afternoon.
It is reported that plans for a peacekeeping force for Ukraine led by the West are approaching an operational stage.
Senior military leaders from the countries that comprise the “coalition of the willing,” which is led by Britain and France, are scheduled to meet at the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood to discuss how this would actually operate.
But there are still a few significant challenges.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Moscow will not accept any NATO forces, regardless of their function, stationed in Ukraine.
In addition, the United States is demonstrating reluctance to supply the air cover that potential members claim they require.
Sir Keir will lay the keel of HMS Dreadnought, one of the upcoming ballistic nuclear submarines, at Barrow before attending a portion of the summit.
Barrow, according to Sir Keir, is a “blueprint” for how defense investment may help a community when he visits the area.
In appreciation of Barrow’s service to national security, he is expected to declare that the King has consented to bestow the title of “Royal.”
Before that, he went to see the crew of HMS Vanguard, a British nuclear submarine, as it made its way back to Scotland after cruising the north Atlantic.
The UK’s nuclear arsenal is respected by the Kremlin because “we have our own independent deterrent, and we’re committed to NATO,” the prime minister told reporters.
The fact that they recognize that it is what it is—a credible capability—is clearly significant, he stated. “And that it is, without doubt.”
Alongside the prime minister, Defense Secretary John Healey emphasized the government’s “unshakeable” commitment to the UK’s nuclear deterrent, which he referred to as “the ultimate guarantor of our national security and the security of our NATO allies.”
