Little Kim Shares a Heartfelt Tribute To Voletta Wallace, “Mommy”
“We lost a phenomenal strong Queen, but we gained a beautiful warrior angel.”
A month after Voletta Wallace, the mother of The Notorious B.I.G., passed away, Lil’ Kim paid her respects. On Sunday, March 16, the Queen Bee posted a variety of text message exchanges with the woman she lovingly referred to as “mommy” on Instagram.
Other photos showed Ms. Wallace with her flowers, dressed as if she were wearing her Sunday best. Kim briefly brought up the problems she had with Ms. Wallace following Biggie’s passing, but she disclosed that with the assistance of “God’s work,” the two women were able to put their differences aside and move on amicably.
“We have been enhancing our relationship for the past nine to ten years. However, we started talking at least once a month, which made the last four to five years truly unique. Eventually, once a week, followed by two or three times a week. You would update me on your garden, which had become your life, and send me lovely pictures of yourself. The Brooklynite typed, “The crop and flowers you planted would grow well, with the exception of those damn peonies sometimes.”
“I called you mommy, like a second mommy, but everyone who knew you called you Meema.” You showed me your phone that day and said, “Look what I have u saved as,” which is why I find the eleventh picture so significant. “What?” I said. “Daughter,” you said. I grinned so broadly that it made me happy, and you started referring to me as your daughter all the time after that.
The 50-year-old emcee went on to say that they planned to see each other more in the upcoming year. The rapper of “Jump Off,” however, claimed that because their schedules never coincided, she felt empty inside and was “[craving] conversation from someone who is no longer here.”
We started talking again after 2025, but by then you were phoning me frequently to insist that we meet up and that you were the only one I hadn’t yet seen. She seemed to be trying to tell me something, and I found it strange that she stated that. I kept repeating I was coming, mommy, smh. Since she was only a few hours away, the idea was to hang out with her after my act in Atlantic City, but that day will never arrive.
“It hurts differently because there isn’t the same anguish and loss as when you wish to talk to someone who isn’t here anymore. You’re saying, “MY GOD CHRISTOPHER!!” and I’m grinning to myself. Stop smoking! Being reconnected with the other half of your heart helps to ease the sadness a little. Meema, may you rest in heaven. We acquired a stunning warrior angel in exchange for the loss of an incredibly powerful Queen.
