De’Aaron Fox, a Spurs guard, is scheduled to have season-ending surgery
ESPN said Thursday that San Antonio Spurs standout guard De’Aaron Fox would have season-ending surgery for tendon damage in his left pinkie finger after just 17 games with his new team.
Prior to last month’s trade deadline, Fox—who was named an All-Star in 2023—was purchased from the Sacramento Kings. Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 17 games while playing for the Spurs.
The 27-year-old was chosen to co-star with Victor Wembanyama, a second-year standout big man, in San Antonio. On February 20, the 7-foot-3 French sensation, who was having an All-Star season, was declared out for the season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder.
After Wembanyama’s departure, the Spurs have stumbled to a 4-8 record. With a 4 1/2-game deficit to the 10th-seeded Mavericks, the team’s hopes of making it to the play-in tournament are fading.
Stephon Castle, a rookie guard, is anticipated to play a bigger role now that Fox is out. With 15.1 points and 4.2 assists in 29 starts this season, the 20-year-old has averaged 13.4 points and 3.5 assists across 63 games.
