Manchester City starts construction on a 10-million-pound training facility for their women’s team

On Tuesday, Manchester City announced plans to construct a training facility for their Women’s Super League team at the City Football Academy training center.

The facility is projected to have a total value of up to 10 million pounds ($12.92 million) and is anticipated to open next season.

“Upon completion, the facility will include a hydrotherapy area, a high-performance gym, and a circular dressing room aimed at enhancing player development,” City stated in a release.

“The approach has been customized to address the unique requirements of the team, incorporating insights from a variety of first team multi-disciplinary experts, including consultations with members of the first team squad during the planning phase.”

The women’s team of the city formerly utilized the same facilities as the men’s and academy teams.

“We’ve clearly transitioned from an incredible facility that has brought us to this moment, but now it’s time for us to progress and grow as a team by providing ourselves with our own space to work from,” City captain Alex Greenwood stated.

“From the very beginning, we have been actively engaged to discuss what will be included and what is essential.”

City claimed the WSL title in 2016 and have been runners-up in the competition on seven occasions. They have secured four Women’s FA Cup titles and four Women’s League Cups as well.

On Monday, the team dismissed head coach Gareth Taylor while positioned fourth in the WSL standings.

Nick Cushing, the former coach of the City women’s team, will take over from Taylor on an interim basis. City will next compete on Saturday against Chelsea in the League Cup final.
