The Steelers are reportedly pursuing Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers is said to be the reason the Pittsburgh Steelers have delayed re-signing at least one of their two free agent quarterbacks.
After acquiring Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf to complete a two-season quest for a No. 1 option in the passing game, ESPN and NFL Network reported Monday morning that the Steelers are concentrating on the quarterback position.
After two seasons and a coaching change, the New York Jets told Rodgers, 41, this month that they were taking a different approach, and he is now a free agent.
After making the playoffs the previous season, the Steelers are said to have left the door open for either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson to return. Wilson recovered from a preseason calf injury, and Fields started the season 4-2.
Before the Steelers finished the season on a four-game losing run and limped into the playoffs, Wilson made a comeback in Week 7 and won six of seven games.
In the wild-card round, they were defeated 28–14 by the Baltimore Ravens.
Wilson and Metcalf were teammates with the Seahawks for three seasons.
Following his recovery from a season-ending Achilles injury sustained in his first game with the Jets in September 2023, Rodgers passed for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024.
The New York Giants have reportedly expressed interest in the four-time NFL MVP and ten-time Pro Bowl selection.
