Trump Rejects Pardon Requests Officer Derek Chauvin, Found Guilty of George Floyd’s Murder
Donald Trump is not considering pardoning Derek Chauvin, even though Elon Musk and Ben Shapiro support it.
On Friday, Trump affirmed that he has no intention of pardoning Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer found guilty of George Floyd’s murder.
When questioned about the push from his allies, Trump responded, “No, I haven’t even heard about it.” “I’ve never heard of that.”
The Daily Wire’s creator, Shapiro, recently started an online petition asking Trump to pardon Chauvin, who was found guilty of violating Floyd’s civil rights and given sentences of 21 years on federal charges and 22 and a half years on state charges. Musk swiftly endorsed the concept, writing, “Something to think about,” on Twitter.
Shapiro contended that Chauvin was not given a fair trial because of the extensive media coverage, which included former President Joe Biden’s public statements. Despite state and federal convictions, he asserted that “the evidence demonstrates certainly (Chauvin) was not guilty beyond reasonable doubt,” citing Floyd’s preexisting heart condition.
Shapiro, who was Speaker Mike Johnson’s guest at Trump’s joint address to Congress, claimed that “the railroading of Derek Chauvin” stoked 2020 protests that damaged property and soured racial relations.
International Black Lives Matter protests were sparked after Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, resulting in Floyd’s death on May 25, 2020, as an unarmed Black man.
Since Chauvin is serving his terms concurrently, his state conviction would remain unaffected by a federal pardon.
