David Schwimmer Calls Out Hollywood Friends for Their “Unacceptable” Silence Regarding Antisemitism
David Schwimmer of “Friends” is speaking out against antisemitism and criticizing Hollywood celebrities for their lack of response.
At the Anti-Defamation League’s Never Is Now conference on Tuesday, the 58-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Ross Geller on the classic comedy, gave a stirring statement about the problem.
David Schwimmer called on other celebrities to openly denounce the rise in antisemitic attitudes, especially those who have made their careers by embracing their Jewish identity or playing Jewish roles on TV.
Silent Celebrities Are Called Out by David Schwimmer
Silence is not an option, he made plain.
“Plenty of people I respect, even some of my heroes in entertainment, music and sports, have chosen to keep a low profile and sit this one out, including some whose careers have been made by leaning into their Jewish identity, and others who have won acclaim for playing Jews onscreen,” he said. “Some of them are doing a lot behind the scenes, privately and in their own way, but so many have chosen not to say anything publicly at all.”
“And if I can say something directly to them: I really wish you would,” Schwimmer continued. I’d like you to get up. Your voice would mean so much to your devoted followers, your community members in need, and others in need of a little support right now, so I hope you will speak up.”
He didn’t stop there, though. The actor went on, “No one is asking you to resolve the Middle East conflict.” “Just say that you stand with your Jewish friends, colleagues, and neighbors against hatred and what’s happening on our college campuses and in our schools and to Jewish-owned businesses is totally unacceptable.”
At the ADL Conference, Gal Gadot makes a strong statement against antisemitism.
At the Anti-Defamation League’s Never is Now conference, where she was given the esteemed International Leadership Award, actress Gal Gadot also gave a stirring speech. The “Wonder Woman” heroine urged the urgent release of captives held in Gaza and spoke strongly against the rise in antisemitism.
The audience erupted in cheers as Gadot highlighted her joy in being an eighth-generation Jewish Israeli during her 12-minute winning speech.
“We hear fresh accounts of the atrocities the hostages have endured with each release. For them, every minute is a nightmare. “We need them home because their lives are in danger,” Gadot said, her voice booming with passion.
Gadot did not hold back while addressing the surge of antisemitism around the world. “The rise in anti-Semitism worldwide is too great for any of us to ignore. We will address anti-Semitism because we have had enough of anti-Semitism,” she continued. “We will call it out, but we will never let it not only defeat us but define us because our love is stronger than their hate.”
Gal Gadot Sends A Strong Message About Love And Resilience
Gadot posted an emotional message to her 133.6 million Instagram followers after her visit. She highlighted the Jewish community’s tenacity and considered the importance of speaking out against bigotry.
“October 7 was a wake-up call, but it also reminded us of our resilience and unbreakable bond,” the veteran of the Israel Defense Forces, who has 133.6 million followers on social media, wrote. “We must continue to educate, share our stories, and stand up against hate — because love will always be stronger.”
Due to his antisemitic remarks, David Schwimmer demands that Elon Musk ban Kanye West from X.
Amidst Kanye West’s recent antisemitic outbursts on the social media platform X, Schwimmer recently urged Elon Musk to take action against the artist, now known as Ye.
Over the weekend, the 58-year-old actor turned to Instagram to attack Musk for permitting West to continue using his platform in spite of his lengthy history of hate speech. Ye’s most recent contentious remark, in which he said, “I don’t like or trust no Jewish person, and this is completely sober with no Hennessy,” prompted the actor to deliver a strong message.
What Was Said by David Schwimmer?
Schwimmer did not mince words in his message, saying:
“Mr. Musk, we CAN stop providing a deranged bigot a megaphone, but we can’t stop him from spouting dumb, hateful filth. On your platform, X, Kanye West has 32.7 million followers. That is twice as many people as there are Jews in the world. Violence against Jews occurs in REAL LIFE as a result of his insane hate speech.
There isn’t enough outrage to ban him from all social media at this time, and I’m not sure which is worse: the fact that he calls himself a Nazi, which suggests he wants to eradicate ALL oppressed populations, including his own.
Being silent is complicit.
The actor’s request comes after Kanye made the infamous public statement, “I don’t like or trust no Jewish person, and this is completely sober with no Hennessy.”
