A “suicidal” Indiana man is shot by secret service agents following a confrontation outside the White House

After local police alerted the U.S. Secret Service about a “suicidal individual,” the agency announced that it had shot an armed man from Indiana a block from the White House early on Sunday.

On March 9, just after midnight, at 17th and G Streets NW, “Secret Service personnel were involved in a shooting following an armed encounter with a person of interest,” stated spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi on Twitter.

Near 17th and F Street, near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, federal agents found the man’s vehicle. Then, when the unnamed suspect approached Pennsylvania Avenue, Secret Service officers confronted him.

He produced a gun, which sparked a “armed confrontation.” He was wounded when agents opened fire on him and taken to a hospital in an unspecified condition. There were no Secret Service members hurt.

After the man, who was allegedly suicidal, left Indiana on Saturday and traveled to Washington, D.C., local police notified federal authorities. His intentions are a mystery.

When it happened, Donald Trump was at his Florida property, Mar-a-Lago.

Leading the inquiry is the Internal Affairs Division of the DC Metropolitan Police.

A 51-year-old suspect fired toward the White House before “running aggressively” toward agents in August 2020, just as that happened during Trump’s first term. Before Trump returned from a brief news session, the Secret Service shot him in the torso.
