Trudeau says that Canada and the US will continue their trade war for a “foreseeable future”
Canada will continue to engage in a trade war with the United States until tariffs are lifted, according to Prime Minister Trudeau.
After what he called a “colorful” phone conversation with then-President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed that Canada will continue to be embroiled in a trade war with the United States for the foreseeable future.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa on Thursday, Trudeau reaffirmed Canada’s determination to oppose US tariffs and negotiate their removal with top Trump administration officials.
Trudeau declared, “I can confirm that we will continue to be in a trade war that was launched by the United States for the foreseeable future.”
Canada quickly implemented retaliatory measures in response to US tariffs, including a 25% levy on US imports valued at C$30 billion. Trudeau made it apparent that these sanctions would not be lifted unless the US government changed its trade policies.
Businesses and decision-makers on both sides of the border are worried about the trade conflict, and many are hoping for a diplomatic solution to reduce economic tensions between the two countries.
