Travel at Paris’ Gare du Nord Is Interrupted by an Unexploded WWII Bomb
Local, national, and Eurostar train services have been disrupted by a WWII bomb found close to Paris’s Gare du Nord.
The French national railway company TER said on Friday that there have been significant traffic interruptions due to a World War II-era bomb found close to the rails of Gare du Nord, one of Paris’ busiest train stations.
Both national and international train routes, including Eurostar services to London, Brussels, and Amsterdam, as well as local metro services have been impacted by the unexploded device.
According to the company’s website, at least four Eurostar trains that were supposed to leave Gare du Nord on Friday morning were canceled.
According to the H line, the bomb was discovered in the center of the train tracks, 2.5 kilometers (1.55 miles) from the train station. Until the de-mining operation was finished, train travel will be interrupted.
Additional information has not yet been released by French authorities, and Eurostar has not reacted to inquiries for comment. It is anticipated that officials will act quickly to minimize inconveniences.
Serving millions of passengers annually, Gare du Nord is one of the busiest train stations in Europe. Unexploded WWII weaponry is not unusual in France, where artifacts from previous wars are still periodically discovered.
