Trump and Trudeau will talk on Wednesday about the trade spat, according to a source
A person familiar with the situation said that U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet on Wednesday, one day after Trump’s new 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports went into effect.
After Trump said that the top three trading partners of the United States had not done enough to stop the flow of fentanyl and its precursor chemicals into the country, he announced the tariff measures, which have the potential to disrupt almost $2.2 trillion in yearly commerce.
Trump then threatened to impose more duties when Canada announced immediate retaliation actions on commodities valued at tens of billions of dollars.
A request for comment from the White House was not immediately answered.
CNN was the first to report on the scheduled call.
