Trump claims that Zelenskyy is “not ready for peace” after the dispute in the Oval Office
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, has come under fire from President Trump, who says he is “not ready for peace” following their confrontation in the Oval Office.
As long as the United States is still participating in talks to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is “not ready for peace,” according to a statement made by President Donald Trump on Friday.
In a public altercation that raised questions about a significant agreement between Washington and Kyiv, Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of contempt at a dramatic meeting in the Oval Office.
“After the meeting, I have concluded that President Zelenskyy is not prepared for peace if America is involved, as he believes our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “What I desire is peace, not benefit. In its beloved Oval Office, he disregarded the United States of America. He is free to return whenever he is prepared for peace.
As a key component of Trump’s ongoing support for Ukraine, Zelenskyy had come to Washington, D.C., to seal an agreement that would allow the US access to Ukraine’s vital minerals. Tensions, however, increased after Vance accused Zelenskyy of being impolite.
Trump raised his voice as the argument heated up and told Zelenskyy, “You’re gambling with World War III.”
The press conference took a further turn when Trump was asked about his views on Russian President Vladimir Putin, which some opponents claim are too forgiving, and he recently called Zelenskyy a “dictator.”
In defense of his strategy, Trump claimed he was joining “both of them” in the quest for peace. Vance continued by saying that greater hostilities had resulted from former President Joe Biden’s combative approach toward Putin.
Vance stated that “perhaps diplomacy is the way to peace and prosperity.”
Zelenskyy contested him, pointing out that Putin has violated ceasefires in the past. He said, “JD, what sort of diplomacy are you talking about?”
“I am speaking of diplomacy that will put an end to the devastation of your nation,” Vance shot back. Zelenskyy’s strategy was then condemned by him, who said, “I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media.”
“Everyone has problems during the war, including you,” Zelenskyy retorted, “but you have a nice ocean and don’t feel it now.” However, you will eventually feel it.
Trump cut in, saying, “We’re trying to solve a problem, so don’t tell us how we’re going to feel. Don’t predict how we will feel.
Trump interrupted Zelenskyy as he tried to elaborate. “That is not for you to determine. You don’t have the right to tell us how we should feel,” he added, then spoke up once again.
“You don’t currently have the cards,” Trump informed Zelenskyy. “Millions of people’s lives are on the line with your gamble. You’re taking a chance on World War III. Furthermore, what you’re doing is really disrespectful to the nation.
There is also concern regarding the future of US-Ukraine ties due to the heated discussion, and it is unclear whether the mining agreement will move forward.
