Elon’s Gift? A mystery donor gave the Las Vegas police a fleet of bulletproof Tesla cybertrucks

The announcement that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will be the first law enforcement organization to get a fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks has caused some controversy.

The department disclosed that it had received at least ten Cybertrucks from an unidentified donor for use in SWAT and patrol.

“By the way, we ordered these before the Trump Tower [explosion],” Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated, alluding to the incident that occurred on New Year’s Day and resulted in the death of an active-duty Army soldier and other injuries.

The safety features of the cars were highlighted by McMahill, who said, “But I will tell you, we want these things because the cops inside will be safe no matter.” They are stop bullets. Additionally, they are a fantastic recruitment tool for us.

The donor’s generosity was highlighted as he reassured the public that the donation would not affect the department’s budget.

This comes after Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, helped with the investigation into the explosion outside Trump Tower earlier this year. Musk, who is now one of Donald Trump’s top advisers, was commended at the time by LVMPD.

Musk responded with an emoji while sporting sunglasses on Twitter on Tuesday, acknowledging the Cybertruck news. Many have concluded that he was the driving force behind this donation as a result. Given that Musk now has a permanent position in the government through the newly established DOGE division, this raises questions about whether he is involved in favoring agencies of his choosing.
