NBA roundup: The Lakers defeat the Mavs thanks to a triple-double from Luka Doncic

Three weeks after a big deal, Luka Doncic scored 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and dished out 12 assists against his old team, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the visiting Dallas Mavericks 107-99 on Tuesday night.

With Doncic on the court, the Lakers advanced to 3-2 thanks to 27 points and 12 rebounds from LeBron James, 20 points from Austin Reaves, and 15 from Rui Hachimura. Los Angeles advanced to 13-3 since January 21 with their third straight victory.

The mood surrounding an unfavorable trade in Dallas was further heightened when Doncic recorded his first triple-double with the Lakers, his fourth of the season and his 81st overall.

The Mavericks fell to 5-6 since January 31 as Kyrie Irving scored 35 points and Klay Thompson added 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter. Doncic’s package from the Lakers included Max Christie, who scored 10 points in his eighth Dallas game.

Grayson Allen scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, while Bol Bol scored 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Raptors 101, Celtics 111

The visiting Boston team trounced Toronto, and Jaylen Brown scored eight of his twenty-four points in the fourth quarter.

The Celtics, who have won six straight games, added 19 points and 11 assists from Jayson Tatum. Payton Pritchard, a backup, scored 20 points, Sam Hauser scored 10, and Derrick White scored 22 points, five assists, and three steals.

The Raptors, who have lost seven of nine games, were led by RJ Barrett, who scored 22 points. Immanuel Quickley scored 10, Scottie Barnes contributed 21, and Gradey Dick scored 12.

Magic 82, Cavaliers 122

Cleveland easily won for the eighth time in a row and for the 12th time in 13 games thanks to 20 points from Ty Jerome off the bench.

The Cavaliers never fell behind in Orlando thanks to the 17 points and 8 rebounds that Evan Mobley contributed.

Chris Paul finished with 12 points and 10 assists, Harrison Barnes and De’Aaron Fox both had 15, while Devin Vassell led San Antonio with 20 points.

Hornets 92, Warriors 128

Buddy Hield led seven Golden State players in double figures with 16 points as the Warriors easily defeated Charlotte in San Francisco to extend their winning streak to four games.

Golden State had 15 points each from Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, and 14 from Gary Payton II. Moses Moody (13 points), Kevin Knox II (12), and Brandin Podziemski (10 points) all scored in double digits as Golden State won by their biggest margin since defeating Utah by 41 points in October. It was the team’s 3,000th victory.

KJ Simpson led the Hornets, who rested LaMelo Ball on the second night of a back-to-back, with 16 points, matching Hield’s game-high total. Charlotte lost for the fourth time in a row, with Seth Curry scoring 14 points in the end. The last three defeats have averaged more than forty-three points.
