Breaking: The FA has banned Arne Slot from touchlines for two games
Due to his actions following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton earlier this month, manager Arne Slot has been given a two-match touchline ban. In a formal statement, the Football Association (FA) announced the ban and listed the penalties levied on both teams and Liverpool assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff.
According to the FA’s statement:
“Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot, and Sipke Hulshoff [assistant manager of Liverpool] have all received approval from an independent Regulatory Commission in connection with their Premier League match on Wednesday, February 12.
Both teams were accused of failing to make sure that their players and/or those who occupied the technical area did not act inappropriately or provocatively after the final whistle. After a hearing, the Regulatory Commission fined Everton £65,000 and Liverpool £50,000 for admitting to the offenses, respectively.
It was claimed that after the game was over, the Liverpool head coach behaved inappropriately and/or used derogatory and/or abusive language and/or behavior toward the match referee and an assistance referee. After Arne Slot acknowledged the accusation, the Regulatory Commission fined him £70,000 and suspended him from two games.
“The Liverpool assistant head coach was fired after it was alleged that he behaved inappropriately, used derogatory and/or abusive language, and/or behaved in an inappropriate manner toward a match official. Additionally, it was claimed that after being sent off, he behaved inappropriately and/or used derogatory and/or abusive language and/or behavior against a match official. Sipke Hulshoff acknowledged the accusation, and the Regulatory Commission fined him £7,000 and suspended him from two games.
“In due course, the written justifications for these sanctions from the Regulatory Commission will be published.”
Slot will not be on the touchline for Liverpool’s pivotal Premier League match against Newcastle at Anfield tonight due to his instant suspension. Additionally, he will not be permitted to enter the technical area during the Reds’ March 8 home match against Southampton. Slot will be allowed to watch Liverpool’s Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter against Paris Saint-Germain in between these games, though, as the punishment only pertains to domestic games.
In addition, Liverpool’s preparations for their forthcoming games will be made more difficult by the two-match touchline ban that assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff will be serving.
Although Liverpool has not yet responded to the decision formally, losing its head coach and assistant will surely be a major setback as they attempt to continue their pursuit of the Premier League championship and European success. In the upcoming weeks, Slot’s absence from the touchline may be critical given the high level of tension in the title battle.
The FA’s whole findings will be made public in due time.
