Arteta of Arsenal promises not to give up on the title battle, saying, “Over my dead body”

Arsenal has a game in hand, but Liverpool leads them by 11 points.

After Saturday’s defeat to West Ham United, Arsenal fell farther behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League title race, but manager Mikel Arteta stated his players will not lose up, stating that they had performed well in spite of injuries and defeats.

“We won’t give up. Ahead of their midweek visit to Nottingham Forest, who are now in third position, Arteta told reporters on Tuesday, “Over my dead body.”

Arsenal has a game in hand, but Liverpool leads them by 11 points.

Liverpool is unbeaten in the league since September, while second-place Arsenal has a mountain to climb with forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz out for the season and wingers Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both sidelined due to injuries.

“If somebody tells you at the start of the season that you play five times with a red card, over half an hour in each of those games, and you have lost this number of players… you’re in the middle of the table at least,” Arteta added.

“That’s not the case. That indicates the team’s tenacity, resources, and desire.

Arteta said that Arsenal had earned exactly the same number of points as Liverpool in the 15 games played before the defeat to West Ham.

The former midfielder for Arsenal remarked, “It was difficult to accept that we lost and that they also won.”

“The fact is that there are a ton of games available. You must return to it. Additionally, we possess the levels, consistency, and desire to continue. And on Wednesday, we will accomplish just that.

“At the end you have certain numbers you have to hit to win in this league and we have to hit that number if we’re going to have any chance.”
