Slot of Liverpool maintains his caution despite leading the championship chase by 11 points

With Sunday’s 2-0 victory against Manchester City, Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot warned against complacency even if his team now leads the Premier League by 11 points.

Arsenal, who have played one fewer game, is in second position with 53 points following Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to West Ham United, while Liverpool has 64 points from 27 games.

Slot said to reporters on Sunday, “In every other league, having a lead like this would be very comfortable, except for this one.”

“Every game was a chance for a mistake,” he remarked, citing Liverpool’s challenging 2-1 victory against relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers at home last week.

“We are in a good position, but we also know how hard it is to play against Wolves,” he said.

After a 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest, Slot anticipates another difficult matchup on Wednesday against fifth-place Newcastle United, who drew with Liverpool in December.

“Now we play Newcastle, we played 3-3 over there, which in my opinion was also a good result … but we also experienced how difficult that one is,” he explained.

“We strive to do this every day, and maintaining this takes three months of arduous labor. There isn’t a secret. Although we lead by eleven points, Arsenal still has one game left.
