Trump Signs Orders to Remove Regulations and Reduce Funding for Migrants
US President Donald Trump has issued executive orders that remove regulatory barriers and eliminate financing for migrants.
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a number of executive orders, including ones to stop public money from funding illegal immigration and to remove rules his administration believes are oppressive.
According to the immigration order, all federal agencies must find and stop any programs that give money to illegally arriving migrants. Furthermore, it guarantees that no federal funding are given to “sanctuary” jurisdictions, which are counties that forbid local law enforcement from collaborating with federal immigration officials.
Along with representatives from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, another order requires agency heads to conduct a thorough assessment of all government regulations. In keeping with Musk’s larger plan to cut government spending—a project that is being challenged in court—any rules that are determined to be at odds with Trump’s ideas will be repealed or changed.
In an effort to strengthen presidential power, Trump also issued an order to dissolve a number of independent agencies and advisory panels. Among the organizations scheduled to be disbanded are the US African Development Foundation, which makes investments in African community projects; the Inter-American Foundation, which provides funding for community development in Latin America and the Caribbean; and the United States Institute for Peace, which advocates for international conflict resolution.
As he flew back from Florida to Washington, Trump signed the new directives on Air Force One.
