Eight Ebola Patients Are Released from Uganda While 265 Are Still Under Quarantine
According to the health minister, Uganda has released eight Ebola patients while keeping 265 contacts under rigorous quarantine for observation.
Eight Ebola patients in Uganda have been released following their full recovery, but 265 people are still under strict isolation, the country’s health minister said Tuesday.
Last month, the East African country announced an Ebola outbreak after a male nurse died at Kampala’s Mulago National Referral Hospital. Although a trial program is in progress, there is presently no vaccination for the Sudan strain of the virus, which has been blamed for the most recent outbreak.
Following their successful recovery, the patients were released on Tuesday, according to Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.
Authorities are still keeping an eye on 265 people in Jinja, Mbale, and Kampala, all of whom had interaction with the index case.
Aceng stated that although none of these individuals have shown any symptoms thus far, they would all be placed under quarantine for 21 days following their exposure or contact.
The highly contagious and frequently lethal hemorrhagic disease Ebola is spread by direct contact with bodily fluids that are infected. Muscle aches, headaches, and fever are among the symptoms. There are presently vaccinations available for the Zaire strain, which has led to epidemics in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a neighboring country, but none are approved for the Sudan strain.
Health officials are still working to control the outbreak and stop its spread, and they are keeping a close eye on things.
