Grammy Award Winner Tems Joins San Diego FC as a Co-Owner

Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has formally joined the ranks of Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team San Diego FC (SDFC) as a co-owner through her business, The Leading Vibe.

The club’s diversified ownership group has grown significantly with her investment, which was made in partnership with the African private investment business Pave Investments.

Tems voiced her excitement, saying, “I am excited to be a part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and community and to join San Diego FC’s ownership group.” Football has the ability to bring people together, and I can’t wait to contribute to the creation of something truly unique in San Diego.

Actress and producer Issa Rae, former Spanish football player Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and Major League Baseball star Manny Machado are among the notable group of co-owners that Tems joins.

Tems’ foray into sports ownership is part of a growing trend in which prominent people are purchasing sports teams. Serena Williams of Angel City FC, LeBron James of Liverpool FC, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney of Wrexham AFC are notable instances.

She was recognized for her song “Love Me JeJe” and earned her second Grammy Award in February. She previously shared a Grammy with Future on the song “Wait for U.” Her co-writing of Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from the soundtrack of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also garnered her a nomination for an Academy Award.
