After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss, Kelce will reflect on his future
Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, stated on Wednesday that he will take his time before determining whether to call it quits on his illustrious NFL career following a devastating Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
One of the best tight ends in NFL history, Kelce, shared his thoughts on retiring on the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his older brother Jason, a former Eagles lineman who retired last year.
“At the moment, I’m just thinking about the future, but I know that everyone wants to know if I’ll be playing next year. I’m going to kick whatever I can. Kelce remarked, “I’m not making any crazy decisions.”
“Right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding that there’ a lot that goes into this thing.”
The Chiefs, who were vying for a record third straight Super Bowl title this season, lost badly, 40–22, on the biggest stage in the NFL. Kelce managed just four receptions for 39 yards.
Kelce, 35, has now made five Super Bowl appearances with the Chiefs in six NFL seasons. The three-time champion acknowledged the physical toll that comes with it. Kelce is currently dating pop sensation Taylor Swift.
“That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body, and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand and every challenge that you set up for yourself,” Kelce stated.
Additionally, that process might be taxing. It can be burdensome. It can simultaneously make you better and make you crazy. At the moment, it’s one of those things that has been driving me a little nuts this year.
Despite his continued dominance on the field, Kelce is coming off a poor season by his standards, as the 2024 season saw him record his lowest yardage total and fewest touchdown catches since his 2013 rookie campaign.
If he chooses to play again in 2025, Kelce stated that he must give it his best.
I owe it to my colleagues that, should I return, it will be a fully committed choice. Kelce declared, “I’m not half-assing it and I’m here for them.”
“I believe I’m capable. Simply put, it comes down to whether I’m driven or if accepting all of that responsibility is the right thing for me as a man, a person, and a human.”
