Charlamagne Tha God feels that Drake was the main focus of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX performance
The Compton rapper sang “Not Like Us,” mentioned the 6 God’s lawsuit, and spoke his opponent’s name.
Due to their intense rap feud, which lasted into this week after the latter’s performance at Super Bowl LIX halftime, Drake and Kendrick Lamar dominated conversation in 2024. The set was recently criticized by Charlamagne Tha God for focusing too much on the Toronto rapper.
Lamar teased singing his big hit diss song “Not Like Us” and performed a chunk of his diss single “Euphoria” during his historic performance. “They love to sue,” he said to his backup dancers, alluding to the 6 Gods’ ongoing defamation case against Universal Music Group. He later performed the song, tapping Drizzy’s ex-girlfriend Serena Williams to hit the crip walk throughout the song, and flashed a cunning grin at the camera as he rapped the lyric “Say Drake.”
“If I were Kendrick, I still wouldn’t have done ‘Not Like Us,'” the host of The Breakfast Club stated. “Kendrick surpasses ‘Not Like Us.'” For Kendrick, “Not Like Us” is a single instance; it doesn’t characterize or define him. Charlamagne appears to be among those who are sick of talking about their rap feud, even if it was a significant event in hip-hop history and has elevated several podcasts and personalities.
“Game over” was announced at the end of the set, and I sincerely hope it is now,” he said. “In order to win, you should never go beyond your target. […] On that huge platform, I just wouldn’t show my opponent and his henchmen so much affection. This is only the most recent milestone in Kendrick Lamar’s nine-month winning streak.
Since releasing “Not Like Us” in May 2024, he has played the song six times as the main act at The Pop Out event on Juneteenth, along with “Euphoria” and his other Drake hate song, “6:16 In LA.” The Compton rapper released the music video for “Not Like Us” on Independence Day the following month. He submitted “Not Like Us” and “Like That,” the figurative “first shot” in their poetic conflict, for Grammy nominations this past autumn. “Not Like Us” became the most-awarded Hip-Hop song in Grammy history after winning all five of the categories for which it was nominated, including Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
Furthermore, this momentum propelled his album GNX to the top of the Billboard 200 in November 2024. The LP included the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single, “Squabble Up,” which was hinted to in the music video for “Not Like Us.” Given that it was inspired by a diss tune, it was of the most successful runs the hip-hop community has ever seen. K. Dot has rode the wave and will continue to do so on his Grand National Tour with SZA starting in April, despite the fact that Charlamagne Tha God and many others feel that the Drake element of it all ruins such an important time.
