Nesta is back in charge of Monza seven weeks after being fired

The Serie A club said on Monday that Alessandro Nesta had been called back to take over as manager after Salvatore Bocchetti was fired. This came after a heavy loss over the weekend that left the club at the bottom of the table.

Bocchetti took over for Nesta in December and signed a deal that runs until June 2027, but his team only won one of their seven league games, and their 5-1 loss at Lazio on Sunday was their fourth straight loss.

During Bocchetti’s time in charge, Monza also lost 4-0 to Bologna in the Coppa Italia and was eliminated. Nesta, a former Italy international and defender for Lazio and AC Milan, is now back on the bench seven weeks after being fired.

Nesta first took over as manager when Raffaele Palladino left for Fiorentina at the end of last season. But after just one win in 17 league games, his first job as a Serie A boss ended.
