The Producer of Black Panther 3 Talks About Denzel Washington’s Casting
Whether Denzel Washington will appear in the next “Black Panther” film is “too early to say,” according to Marvel producer Nate Moore.
The 70-year-old star of “Gladiator II” disclosed last November that the 38-year-old superhero subseries director Ryan Coogler had been writing him a part for the upcoming third film. However, producer Nate Moore has now emphasized that Marvel is unable to confirm Washington’s involvement in the project because the studio hasn’t yet “had really substantive creative conversations” with the filmmaker about the film.
Regarding Washington’s possible role in the third “Black Panther” film, Moore told Screen Rant: “If that manifests, which we’re going to try, I think it will probably be somebody from canon.” Who that is is still in its infancy.
Since Ryan is wrapping up his feature “Sinners,” which is expected to be released this year and is truly going to be fantastic, we haven’t really had any meaningful creative talks with him.
“So, again, it’s too early to tell, but obviously we’re going to figure out a way to make that happen if an actor like Denzel Washington wants to be involved.”
Washington had hinted at his possible role in the upcoming “Black Panther” movie while outlining his last ventures before leaving Hollywood.
At this stage of my career, I’m only interested in working with the finest; I’m not sure how many more films I’ll do, probably not that many,” he said on Australia’s “Today” show. I want to try stuff I haven’t tried yet.
“I played Othello at 22, and I’m now going to play it at 70,” the “Equalizer” star hinted at the parts he had in the works before he ended his playing career. I’m going to play Hannibal after that. Since then, Steve McQueen and I have been discussing a movie.
Following that, I have a role in the upcoming “Black Panther” that Ryan Coogler is scripting for me. I will then work on the movie Othello. I’m going to do King Lear after that. Afterward, I will retire.
Following the revelation that Coogler had been writing him a part in the third “Black Panther” movie, Washington claimed to have phoned the “Creed” director to express regret.
In an interview with Variety’s “Awards Circuit Podcast,” he declared: “Ryan is a genius.” I apologized to him over the phone for discussing the movie, and his stunning wife was seated next to him.
He is still Ryan—humble and creative. Any writing he does, I will read.
The reappearance of Letitia Wright’s Shuri is anticipated in the third Black Panther film, which will follow up on 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The actress, who played Black Panther in the 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, hinted in 2023 that there will be “a lot coming up” for her character.
Wright stated during an interview on “The View” that “[Shuri is] one of my favorite characters.” What a blessing, really. I am really thankful for her.
