Iran’s leader Khamenei talks with Hamas leaders in Tehran, according to state television

Iranian state television said that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with two senior Hamas leaders and acting Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya in Tehran on Saturday.

“You defeated the Zionist regime [Israel], which was in fact America’s defeat,” Khamenei, whose nation backs Hamas in its conflict with Israel, said to the Palestinian delegation. “You did not allow them to achieve any of their goals.”

The Palestinian officials were in Tehran to congratulate Khamenei on the anniversary of the Iranian revolution in 1979, according to Iranian television. They conveyed their appreciation for Iran’s ongoing assistance.

Top Hamas official Nizar Awadallah and Hamas leadership council chairman Mohammad Darwish were also part of the team that gave Khamenei a report on “the victories and successes that were achieved” as well as the current state of affairs in Gaza and the West Bank.

Al-Hayya told Khamenei, “We come to meet with you today with pride,” according to the TV.

U.S. threats against Iran “have no effect on the mindset of our nation,” according to Khamenei, according to Iranian media.
