Almost 11,000 migrants have been sent to Mexico from the United States since Trump took office
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that since U.S. President Donald Trump took office on January 20, Mexico has received around 11,000 deported migrants from the United States.
About 2,500 non-Mexicans were included in the number, she claimed.
In an effort to further curb the flow of migrants headed to the United States, Sheinbaum and Trump struck an agreement earlier this week to halt punitive tariffs on Mexican goods in return for the deployment of thousands of National Guard officers to the country’s northern border with the United States.
“Mexico has also repatriated deported migrants to Honduras via flights and ground transportation,” Sheinbaum said at her daily morning press briefing.
She emphasized, however, that the repatriations were voluntary.
“It’s voluntary,” she informed the media. “We will accompany them so they can go to their home countries.”
