Trump’s plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza has Netanyahu’s support
In light of the continuing tensions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed support for President Trump’s plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed worldwide criticism of US President Donald Trump’s plan to force Palestinians out of Gaza on Wednesday.
Human rights organizations have condemned Trump’s idea for a US-led government of Gaza and his notion that Palestinians living in the region should be permanently removed, calling it ethnic cleansing.
Netanyahu backed letting Palestinians who want to leave the territory do so in an interview with Fox News, but he did not specifically address the possibility of US sovereignty over Gaza.
“What’s wrong with it, really? They can move and return, or they can depart and return. But you must rebuild Gaza,” he stated.
Netanyahu also said he didn’t think Trump was suggesting that Washington would fund reconstruction operations or commit US soldiers to combat Hamas in Gaza.
He declared, “This is the first smart idea I’ve heard.” “It’s an amazing idea, and I believe it should be thoroughly investigated, pursued, and completed because I believe it will change everyone’s future.”
Both Palestinian officials and Arab states have vehemently opposed Trump’s repeated calls since January 25 for regional Arab countries like Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinian refugees from Gaza.
Trump’s advisors defended his plan after it was widely denounced, but also disassociated themselves from several aspects of it.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel’s military attack on Gaza, which is currently experiencing a precarious ceasefire, has killed more than 47,000 Palestinians in the last 16 months. Nearly the whole community has been uprooted by the offensive, which has also caused a serious hunger problem. Israel has refuted charges of war crimes and genocide.
The most recent escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict started on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants stormed Israel, killing 1,200 people and capturing about 250 prisoners, according to Israeli authorities.
