Reports: Lonzo Ball and the Bulls agree to a two-year, $20 million agreement
The Chicago Bulls offered point guard Lonzo Ball a two-year, $20 million contract extension on Wednesday, according to many media sites, amid trade rumors one day before the deadline.
Chicago Sports Network reports that the new contract has a club option for the second season.
After three surgeries on his left knee, Ball missed more than two seasons before making his comeback for the Bulls’ October season opener.
Before missing 15 games because of a sprained right wrist, he participated in three of the team’s first four games this season. After making a comeback in late November, Ball was a reliable backup before entering the starting lineup in late January.
Ball missed Wednesday night’s second game of a back-to-back set after starting eight straight games with averages of 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. The Bulls lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-108 in Minneapolis on Wednesday without Ball.
In 30 games (nine starts) this season, Ball is putting up 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.
Over his career, Ball has averaged 11.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 282 games (248 starts) with the Los Angeles Lakers (2017–18–2018–19), New Orleans Pelicans (2019–20–2020–21), and Chicago (2021–22 and 2024–25).
The Bulls are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, the last play-in spot, despite their 22-30 record.
