CEO Tsengwa has resigned, according to Exxaro Resources of South Africa

Exxaro Resources (EXXJ.J), a coal miner in South Africa, announced on Thursday that Nombasa Tsengwa, its new tab’s CEO, has resigned with immediate effect, two months after being suspended pending a governance investigation.

As the business searches for a permanent replacement, longtime financial director Riaan Koppeschaar, who has served as interim CEO since December, will remain in the position, Exxaro said in a statement.

In the announcement, Exxaro board chairman Geoffrey Qhena stated, “We have accepted the resignation of Dr. Tsengwa.”

“In order to find and select a new CEO who will keep fostering growth, we will start an accelerated process.

creativity and quality in our company.”

Leading Exxaro, a significant provider of thermal coal to South Africa’s power plants, while it looks for clean energy resources, namely copper and manganese, in an effort to diversify away from coal that pollutes the environment will be the responsibility of Tsengwa’s successor.

Tsengwa, the head of the Minerals Council South Africa, the nation’s principal miners’ representation organization, was not immediately available for comment.

Exxaro declared on December 4 that Tsengwa had been placed on “precautionary suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an independent investigation into allegations related to workplace conduct and governance practice.”
