Alicia Keys wins the Grammys’ 2025 Global Impact Award

At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Alicia Keys collected the Dr. Dre Global Impact award, celebrating women and the “magic they bring to the room.”

In her acceptance speech, the “Empire State of Mind” hitmaker acknowledged the value of diversity and received a special award for her work as a singer, songwriter, and producer, her Keep a Child Alive foundation, and her efforts to support women in music.

Alicia was praised as a “continuous inspiration, through her voice, her talent, but most importantly through her heart” by Queen Latifah, who also presented the award.

“This is for all the ladies that know the magic that they bring to the room,” the 44-year-old winner stated. DEI is a gift rather than a danger. And the sound gets stronger the more voices there are.

We emerge like a phoenix from the ashes when destructive forces try to burn us alive, and as you’ve seen tonight, music is the global language that unites us all.

“Let’s continue to demonstrate understanding and compassion…the great Toni Morrison once remarked, “the dream of the world as it ought to be.”

It was especially pleasing to Alicia to be acknowledged as a producer.

As a lyricist, composer, and particularly a producer, she observed: “I always had to fight for a certain level of respect.” The business has traditionally been driven by female producers.

Thanks to donations from people watching the ceremony at home, host Trevor Noah reported that the Grammys had already generated at least $7 million for individuals impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Throughout the show, a QR code to give has kept popping up, and the comic previously mentioned that it was also on the tables where the attendees were seated at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The Recording Academy’s campaign has joined with other local groups to assist the victims, and the money will be sent to the MusiCares Fire Relief fund.
