Tyrese Gibson and Home Depot have been at odds for almost two years, but the dispute has finally been settled.

The “Fast & Furious” star accused the store’s cashier of racially stereotyping him and his coworkers in February 2023, sparking the start of his legal battle with the retail company. He claimed that because they were persons of color, they received unfavorable treatment.

Tyrese Gibson and his two coworkers sued Home Depot for $1 million in damages months after the alleged discrimination. The shop business fiercely retaliated, releasing CCTV footage that appeared to disprove the TV personality’s story.

Home Depot Case Rejected by Tyrese Gibson

In his long-running lawsuit against Home Depot, Gibson has reportedly conceded defeat. He notified the court on Monday, January 27, that he was dismissing all claims against the home improvement store with prejudice.

The action was taken months after the actor and the other plaintiffs split from the law company that was handling their case. In June 2024, the lawyers departed from the triumvirate, leaving Gibson to handle the legal drama on his own. That proved to be too much to bear, though.

Gibson allegedly skipped two hearings, and a hearing to decide on the proper penalties for blowing off the case was scheduled. Fortunately, the actor from “Fast X” avoided punishment by withdrawing from the $1 million case.

At a hearing on Wednesday, January 29, the court affirmed that he would not be subject to any sanctions. According to In Touch, one of Gibson’s colleagues also withdrew from the case, while the other said he would hire a new attorney and take on Home Depot.

What transpired between Home Depot and the singer-turned-actor?

On February 11, 2023, Gibson and his colleagues—who frequently collaborate with him on house projects—went to a house Depot location in Los Angeles. When others apparently began to notice the entertainer, the three had been waiting in line to pay for their goods.

According to the singer-turned-actor, he obtained the cashier’s consent before waiting in his car and left his card with his associates to finish the purchase. But the employee abruptly forbade his colleagues from purchasing the goods without Gibson’s ID.

He and his friends sued Home Depot for $1 million, but the company denied any wrongdoing. In a statement, a store representative emphasized that Gibson was valued as a customer and that discrimination was not tolerated. The message went on:

We’ve contacted him and his lawyers multiple times in the months since this incident to attempt to allay his worries. We’ll keep doing that.

As the case developed, Home Depot completely changed its mind.

Home Depot stated in their first statement that they wanted to resolve their disagreements with Gibson and his partners without going to court. But as the case went on, they completely changed their minds and became openly hostile toward the plaintiffs.

The store contended in court that Gibson’s story was not supported by its security footage. He was not seen on tape conversing with the cashier or obtaining her consent to wait in his vehicle while his colleagues used his card to finish the transaction.

The second point raised by Home Depot was that Gibson’s allegations of worry and emotional anguish were not supported by any medical data. The actor claimed in his lawsuit that he experienced these symptoms after being subjected to alleged discrimination at the retail establishment.

Due to the entertainer’s lack of cooperation, the case became ugly.

Gibson and Home Depot got into a heated argument after the actor was accused of being difficult. During a deposition, the retailer accused him of “making statements such as ‘That is none of your business.'” and refusing to answer questions.

They asserted that Gibson would constantly threaten to leave, make long, unresponsive answers on the record, and follow up on a question with another question. According to The Blast, the actor used social media to disparage Bernard “Bernie” Marcus, a co-founder of Home Depot.

He wrote: “The Trump supporter attempts to slander me!!!” in response to the store’s assertion that their security footage refuted his story. Gibson noted that there was reason to question Marcus’s motives when he claimed to have contributed millions to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Nick Cannon Was Made Fun of The Home Depot Lawsuit of Tyrese Gibson

Nick Cannon discussed Gibson’s conflict with Home Depot on “The Daily Cannon” show in August 2023, according to The Blast. He thought the actor exaggerated a straightforward matter, so he and his co-hosts made fun of his legal action.

His actions were “a little bit wild,” according to co-host Courtney Bee, who also pointed out that the cashier most likely required his ID to confirm the card’s owner. Mason Moussette, a fellow star, concurred, pointing out that although Gibson was expecting superstar treatment, the assistant was unimpressed by his history and made an effort to perform her duties.

Cannon immediately expressed his opinions, questioning why Gibson was so keen to go back to court after his child support dispute with Samantha Lee, his ex-wife. “Did he not just leave the courtroom? The former Nickelodeon star said, “Aren’t you sick of being in court?

After his battle with Home Depot is over, can Tyrese Gibson avoid legal issues this year?
