Niko Kovac is named Borussia Dortmund’s next head coach

Nuri Şahin’s time as manager of Borussia Dortmund has ended early. The former midfielder, who was only hired in June of last year, was fired last week after the team’s Champions League loss to Bologna, which was 2-1.

Dortmund has chosen to replace him with Niko Kovac, who will be leading the team in the days ahead. Mike Tullberg, the U19 coach, oversaw the most recent game against Shakhtar Donetsk, but Kovac’s appointment gives the struggling Bundesliga team a new beginning.

The news was confirmed by the club’s sports director, Lars Ricken, on DAZN, who said, “We have reached an agreement in principle.” On Sunday, he (Kovac) will lead the team. Given that Dortmund is presently ranked eleventh in the Bundesliga and must make it through the play-offs to advance to the Champions League Round of 16, the former coach of AS Monaco and Bayern Munich confronts a difficult task.
