At the Busan airport in South Korea, an Airbus aircraft catches fire; no one is hurt

At Gimhae International Airport in the south of the country, an Airbus (AIR.PA), opens new tab jet operated by South Korean airline Air Busan (298690.KS), caught fire on Tuesday as it was getting ready to depart for Hong Kong, according to fire officials.

Seven crew members and all 169 passengers were evacuated, and one passenger who had a minor injury was brought to the hospital, according to Busan fire officials.

The fire department said that the fire originated within the aircraft. It started at the tail of the aircraft, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

A month has passed since the biggest flight accident to ever occur in South Korea, when a Jeju flight (089590.KS) new tab jet from Bangkok crashed on the runway of Muan Airport during an emergency belly landing, killing all but two of the 181 passengers and crew members on board.

In December, Korean Air (003490.KS) purchased Air Busan, a low-cost airline, from Asiana Airlines (020560.KS), a subsidiary of South Korea. It is an Airbus A321 model, based on monitoring data from FlightRadar24.

Airbus stated it is in contact with Air Busan and is aware of reports regarding the situation.
