Kyle Walker has finished his loan transfer to AC Milan
Manchester City captain Kyle Walker agreed to spend the rest of the season on loan at AC Milan. On Friday, the two teams affirmed.
Milan said in a statement that they also have the option to buy Walker, an England right-back who Sky Italy estimates would cost about 4.2 million pounds ($5.24 million).
The 34-year-old has made 319 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s squad, most recently playing in City’s 4-1 Premier League victory against West Ham United on January 4.
Walker still has 18 months left on his City contract, but he signed a three-year extension in 2023. In 2017, Walker left Tottenham Hotspur to join the Etihad.
“It was a dream come true to sign with this amazing club in 2017,” he said on social media.
“I could only have imagined as a youngster that I would win 17 trophies seven years later, including the Champions League and the renowned treble.
“I want to thank Pep for having faith in me and putting in so much effort to get me here in 2017.”
We’ve celebrated 17 titles together, and your advice has shaped me into the player I am now. I will always be appreciative.
Walker did not play in City’s 8-0 hammering of Salford City in the FA Cup third round on January 11.
The defender was told to “explore options to play abroad,” according to Guardiola.
He leaves amid a run of poor performances for the English champions, who will be eliminated from the Champions League after their collapse in a 4-2 loss at Paris St. Germain on Wednesday, even though he was a part of all six of City’s Premier League triumphs under Guardiola.
With one game remaining, Liverpool leads the Premier League, Manchester City is now in fifth position, 12 points behind them.
Walker, who has 93 caps, was the only English player chosen for the Euro 2024 squad after playing every minute in Germany, when the Three Lions succumbed to Spain in the tournament.
He was a member of England’s leadership group during the Euros.
Walker’s departure occurs during the busy transfer window for City.
They signed Egypt attacker Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday after bringing in Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov and 19-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis.
