Real Madrid’s January offer for Liverpool’s star defender is rejected
Real Madrid’s plans for the winter transfer window have run into a snag, despite their enormous financial success. Last season, the team, which brought in €1.0455 billion, set out to strengthen its defense, which was beset by injuries.
Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, whose contract expires this summer, was Real Madrid’s top target after Dani Carvajal was sidelined.
Real reportedly agreed to a free transfer with the 26-year-old in the summer, but the club wanted to sign him in January for a price tag of between €20 and €30 million.
But Liverpool firmly rejected the idea of selling Alexander-Arnold in the middle of the season. The Reds’ Premier League and Champions League campaigns are their top priorities, thus the right-back is essential regardless of his contract status.
For the time being, Real Madrid has to look inside or look at other targets. Even though the team needs defensive reinforcements badly, Carlo Ancelotti will have to settle for temporary solutions like Lucas Vazquez until the summer since they are unwilling to look for backups during the winter transfer window.
