The failure of CAFCL will teach us, says Ramovic
After the Young Africans just missed out on making it to the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League, head coach Sead Ramovic has stated that he will accept full responsibility for their defeat.
Since MC Alger and Yanga were just one point apart, Yanga needed to defeat them in their last group stage match to guarantee a top-two finish.
Al Hilal was in the lead with ten points, but they lost badly to TP Mazembe 4-0 in Lubumbashi earlier on Saturday after making a mistake.
It gave Ramovic’s team the opportunity to beat El Mouloudia and maybe tie the Blue Wave, but the Tanzanian powerhouses were narrowly defeated when their match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium finished in a goalless draw.
Ramovic said it is heartbreaking that they are leaving Africa’s top club tournament, but he says his players will gain important knowledge from the experience.
The tactician, who was born in Germany, stated, “We must trust the process and keep working to improve, even though it’s painful to be out of the Champions League.”
“We played with seriousness and made an effort to win. We had excellent opportunities, but we were unable to turn them into goals. This is a challenging lesson, but we will take it to heart.
Although we all worked together, I am alone to blame for the lack of progress. Our goal is to end the season strong in our domestic contests, so we will keep getting better.
