Qing Madi of Nigeria Launches 2025 as a Spotify Equal Artist in January
Qing Madi has been selected by Spotify as its January 2025 EQUAL Africa Artist, kicking off an incredible year for African music.
Spotify’s dedication to showcasing outstanding female talent from the continent and empowering them on a global scale is reaffirmed by this announcement.
Qing Madi has previously been in the news as part of Spotify’s EQUAL initiative. Having previously graced the EQUAL playlist, her reintroduction as the featured artist reaffirms her reputation as a leader in the African music business.
The 2024 Spotify Wrapped data demonstrates Qing Madi’s extraordinary musical ability. Her hit song American Love is the second most streamed song in Uganda, and she is one of the most streamed female artists in both Ghana and Nigeria. Qing Madi also shines as one of Africa’s greatest EQUAL artists, sharing the spotlight with talents like Tyla, Ayra Starr, and Amaarae.
With strong support from her mother, artistic influence from Kendrick Lamar and a family move to Lagos, Qing Madi’s musical journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Since starting her career at the young age of five, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of her art, demonstrating the depth of her talent.
See Finish’s social media virality, which captivated audiences and established her reputation in the Nigerian music industry, was her big break. This triumph was followed by the publication of her Qing Madi album, a compilation of sympathetic songs highlighting themes of first loves and the emotional road to self-discovery.
Later, Qing Madi built on this success with a deluxe edition of the EP, which included three new tracks: the heartfelt Sins For U, the Kizz Daniel-assisted YBIL (You Believe in Love), and a remix of Vision featuring Chloe Bailey. She also concluded 2024 with the release of Goosebumps.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, stated: “Qing Madi is a remarkable artist whose music has a profound impact on listeners in Africa and beyond. We are happy to see her return as an EQUAL artist and can’t wait to watch her continue breaking boundaries and inspiring the next generation of artists.”
“To begin the year with such important recognition is an amazing feeling. It means a lot to me to be a part of the EQUAL program once more, and I appreciate Spotify’s assistance in elevating the voices of African women,” says Qing Madi.
