Athletes love the Cortina Alpine skiing course
Athletes who participated in the resort last weekend gave the Cortina d’Ampezzo Alpine skiing course high marks, with little over a year to go until the Winter Olympics.
The men’s and women’s Alpine skiing competitions will take place in Bormio and Cortina, respectively, during the Milan-Cortina Games, which will take place from February 6–22.
The ‘Queen of the Dolomites,’ who has been on the main calendar since 1969, delighted the leading contenders in last weekend’s World Cup races, which were viewed as a test event.
“I’ve never seen a throng this large in Cortina. American Lindsey Vonn, who has won a record 12 speed events on the Olimpia delle Tofane track, stated, “I think they really have everything set up really well for the Olympics next year.”
“The audience was incredible. There were people watching on the huge screen around the mountainside while I was up at the Duca d’Aosta restaurant. I have never witnessed that. This vibe is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. This is on another level, but everyone has always had that enthusiasm here.
Lara Gut-Behrami, an Olympic Super-G winner, appreciated the circumstances.
“Cortina is a quality assurance. The track is consistently well-maintained and ready. It’s the only spot on the World Cup circuit where they can still get through a meter of snow,” she remarked.
So, in addition to the breathtaking Dolomite scenery, it’s also comforting to know that you can anticipate a week of ideal weather when you get there. The sun is here every year. I’m not sure if we’re fortunate, but the weather is simply fantastic, much better than in previous years.”
