Mbappe is happy that he has at last rediscovered his form at Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid, who has scored four goals in their previous three games, claimed on Tuesday that it took him longer than anticipated to return to his former form after leaving Paris St. Germain and acclimating to a new squad.

According to Mbappe, overanalyzing and failing to concentrate his efforts in the proper direction has been the most challenging obstacle since moving to the Bernabeu over the offseason.

The 26-year-old revealed that missing his second penalty in a week during Real Madrid’s 2-1 La Liga loss to Athletic Bilbao in early December marked a turning point in his career.

Mbappe stated in a news conference prior to Wednesday’s Champions League match against Salzburg, “I think it was a mentality issue and that was a point I realized that I had to work harder.”

“I was considering how to proceed too much. You lose focus on your game when you overthink decisions like whether to go into space, to Rodrygo’s region, or to Vini’s (Vinicius Jr.) section of the field.

“I realized I needed to do more; that was the moment to make a shift, even though I was doing well physically and with the group. Playing poorly wasn’t why I traveled to Madrid. We must always play well here, and I’m prepared to do it right now.

“As a player who constantly strives for better, I felt horrible since it’s common to be targeted when you don’t achieve at that level. I was aware that it was possible, and ultimately, it was a positive experience since I had a mental shift following that game.

“I couldn’t do any worse, so when you hit rock bottom you can only go up,” he continued.

Prior to the Bilbao encounter, Mbappe had only scored three goals in Real Madrid’s 12 games across all competitions. However, he has since found his shooting boots and currently has 12 La Liga goals, good for second place in the scoring standings, and 17 goals overall.

“Talking is normal when you’re a player like me, with all that was expected of you. However, I don’t think it’s personal; you just need to keep your cool and concentrate on your game. “I changed the situation because I knew I could,” he stated.

“I will never be a bashful player. But a player like me must be humble when he comes to Madrid.

“I can’t come here and make demands; it’s not bashful. I arrived with the utmost respect, and it’s nice that my significance within the team grows every day.

“My goal is to perform better and give Madrid my best effort in every match. My legs give me the impression that I can perform better. I’m the type of player that requires greater effort and this pressure.”

With nine points, Real is in 20th place out of 36 teams in the Champions League standings, four points below the top eight, which guarantee straight entrance to the round of 16. Salzburg is five points outside of the playoff spots in 32nd position with three points.
